I am currently on a bit of a holiday/inspiration trip to Cape Town, and following a visit to Truth Coffee (voted #1 coffee in the world by the Daily Telegraph), I was inspired to write this post about Steampunk Design.

Steampunk I would describe as Art Nouveau meets industrial.  It involves using a mechanical component, for unusual items, in a decorative way, eg. Copper piping as a shelf, a tuba as a lamp, pulley’s to direct lighting etc.  It is reminiscent of movies like Mad Max or festivals like Afrika Burn, and to me based on the premise of the end of the world, using what is still available to create something new.

In short, I find it super cool and creative!

Perfect for applications in bars or man-caves, also check out Spitfire Furniture in both Cape Town and Johannesburg, for a great selection of steampunk furniture items!
